The Granby Trio

These three cats were living outside in the cold until December 13, 2020, the day we rescued them. Your donations made it possible for us to take them into a safe, warm place!

We’re calling them “The Granby Trio” for now. They’ve never known a home and so they are very, very scared. They do not want to be touched and are hiding 24/7 - so we need to be patient while they depressurize and learn to trust.

Based on observations from someone in the Granby, CT neighborhood they were found in, we think the small kitten may be around 10 weeks old and the two larger cats may be 10 months old.

They have a journey ahead, but we see such potential in each of them. Follow their progress...

The Journey Begins...

December 16, 2020 - It’s been just under 3 days since we rescued the cats from the cold. They are each still in the depressurizing stage.

No names yet until we see their true personalities shine - so we’ve given them nicknames.

January 1, 2021 - A New Years surprise! We received word that Kitten's sibling was finally trapped.  So today The Granby Trio has become The Granby Quartet!

This little girl is very scared right now so we are giving her time to decompress.

January 26, 2021 - The Granby Quartet have all been spending some quality time in foster care and have gotten clean bills of health from the vet!  We are ready for the next step of trying to find them "forever homes".

December 16, 2020

This is the youngest of The Granby Trio - we're calling her “kitten” or “puff” for now. Kitten is still afraid of us, but not like the other two cats. She’s bored and wants to play - she cries out sometimes but when we come into the room she runs and hides. She’s curious though and peeks her head out. When you extend a toy to her, she will engage but it can take some time.

December 16, 2020

Kitten is so curious.

January 7, 2021

Kitten (right side) is really enjoying having her sister Miss Meatball (left side) around.  They love to cuddle together.  Having each other brings out their confidence.

December 16, 2020

Kitten temporarily forgets her fear and engages in play.

December 20, 2020

Kitten takes a flying leap and reaches the window!

January 30, 2021

Kitten is such a character!  She is curious about everything now.  Here she is discovering herself in the mirror.

March 4, 2021

Kitten has found a "forever home".  She goes home tomorow.  Her new family is SUPER excited to have her.

December 16, 2020

The second cat is “Hidey” because that’s all he does - hides. We actually had to remove his cat bed for now because he will lay under it 24/7, like a turtle hiding in it’s shell. We have a soft towel in there for comfort but can’t put anything fluffier/bigger because we don’t want to reinforce the hiding. Hidey is shut down as well. He doesn’t move much when we are in the room. We wish we could tell Hidey how much we want to help.

December 23, 2020

Double Trouble! Hidey and Kitten exploring the bathroom next to the cat room. Of course they froze as soon as they realized they’d been caught!

January 8 , 2021

Big breatkthrough with Hidey this week!  That's right, he's being pet!  We have to move slowly and speak softly, but its a huge step for him.

December 16, 2020

Hidey hanging out with Kitten.

December 25, 2020

Kitten looks like Hidey’s mini-me

January 30 , 2021

Hidey doesn't spend much time hiding anymore.  He is mostly out in the open, laying in his cat bed up high or playing with his siblings.  You can see his confidence starting to slowly shine through.

December 17, 2020

Hidey breakthrough! He came out of hiding and watched me through the gate for 30 minutes!

January 3, 2021

Hidey continues to be sequestered by himself until his neuter appointment. He isn't happy about this, although we try to make him as comfortable as possible.  This morning we found him inside the bathroom cabinet. Apparently he knows how to open cabinet doors. He's a smart cookie.

January 30 , 2021

Hidey and his best bud Puff sleeping together in the cat bed.  When he first came to rescue, Hidey would hide underneath his cat bed.  Wow what an improvement!

December 16, 2020

This is the third cat. Whenever we walk into the room, she gives us a stare. So we’re calling her “Stinkeye” for now. Stinkeye pretty much keeps her eyes on you the entire time. She gobbles her food up right away when fed. She will lay on top of her cat bed the whole day and not move much at all. I’ve never seen her stand up but I know she does when we aren’t around. Stinkeye has shown some interest when we are waving a string toy around but she doesn’t dare move. She’s still shut down emotionally. It will take time to earn her trust.

December 19, 2020

Stinkeye comes out into the room to play chase-around-the-box with Kitten

January 3, 2021

Stinkeye was purring when she posed for this picture.  That's a big step for her.  Maybe she's turning over a new leaf for the New Year!

December 16, 2020

Stinkeye can be distracted by toys sometimes.

December 24, 2020

You’re not seeing things - it’s Stinkeye! Playing for 15 minutes with a string toy that I was dangling from a rod. She has big beautiful eyes when she’s not giving me her unhappy stare

January 30, 2021

Stinkeye enjoys being pet now and she's learned that cat beds are very comfy.

December 16, 2020

Stinkeye likes her cat bed.

December 24, 2020

Stinkeye letting loose for a moment,

January 30, 2021

Stinkeye is very inquisitive and likes to look outside the window and see what's happening.

"Miss Meatball"

January 1, 2021

This is our surprise fourth cat - Kitten's sister was finally trapped.  We're giving her some space right now, as she is very frightened.  When she curls up to hide from us, she looks like a little meatball.  So, we're calling her "Miss Meatball" for now.

January 2, 2021

Miss Meatball and Kitten - two crazy peas in a pod!  They play like monkeys during the night

January 30, 2021

Miss Meatball is still taking time to come out of her shell with people, but she sure gets along great with the other cats.  As you can see here, she also gets into mischief sometimes.

January 1, 2021

Meatball has many markings that look similar to Stinkeye.

January 3, 2021

Miss Meatball let her guard down when she saw the other kitties playing with the string toy.

February 21, 2021

Miss Meatball met her "forever family" today.  She goes home in a week.  She doesn't know it yet, but this is the start of a whole new life for her!

January 2, 2021

Miss Meatball came out of hiding during the night.  Her sister Kitten showed her it was okay to eat and play.  She still doesn't trust us yet, but we can see she is gaining a little confidence from her sister.

January 7, 2021

Miss Meatball (eft side) loves her sister Kitten (right side) to pieces.  She is slowly gaining trust with us.  She and Kitten play all the time and are enjoying life.
